Taking a finger out of a pie.

A few months ago I made an episode of the COCKTAIL NAPKIN entitled Fingers In Pies that talked about focusing energies to do the best creative work possible. In that video, I examined the fact that I’ve spread myself too thin with too many external commitments. Because of that, it’s too hard to do truly great work because there’s not enough energy to devote to the endeavor.

Last night, I pulled a finger out of a pretty big pie.

Last night was my last Art+Copy Club of Kansas City council meeting. I’ve been serving as president over the last year, and I decided around the time I made that video that I was not going to run for re-election to the council when my term was up this month. I’ve enjoyed serving and helping inspire the creative community of Kansas City for the past two years, but I really felt that there were other ways that I could use the time and energy that doing all that requires.

Even though I’m going to continue to support and advise the new president, I feel bittersweet relief that I’ve now got more time to devote to doing the types of creative work that I want to do.

I wrote a farewell address to the Art+Copy Club membership this afternoon, and that begins closure for me. I’m still officially in the position until June 30th, but the transition is beginning now.

Anyone want to help me finish Tiki Bar?
