Some of you may remember that a few months ago I attempted to lose 22 pounds using Wii Fit and a sensible diet. I was chronicling my journey on another blog, wiifitproject.com.

Today I officially pulled the plug on it. I never put the energy and attention into it that it deserved. I didn’t take sufficient amounts of photos, I didn’t post regularly enough, and for 3/4 of the lifespan of the experiment the site had its default Wordpress theme applied. When I don’t even take the time to design the site skin for a project it should be a good indication the site is doomed.

Questions may be running through your mind.

Did you lose any weight doing the experiment? Yes. At the peak of my participation in the project I lost 4-6 pounds in one week.

Does this mean you’ve stopped doing Wii Fit? No. I’m currently doing Wii Fit only once every other week, so I’ve really fallen off the wagon there. However, I’m hoping that relieving the pressure of documenting my whole Wii Fit experience will get me back into doing it with more frequency. I enjoy Wii Fit, I just dreaded having to recount everything when done.

Do you think this was a complete failure? No. Wii Fit Project was like a lot of my creative experiments. It was something that I threw at the wall to see if it stuck, and it didn’t. Any good creative will tell you that in creativity you can’t be afraid to fail. Wii Fit Project failed its goal, but it succeeded in two ways:

  1. It got me to do some sort of exercise
  2. It got the few people who happened upon the site to talk about Wii Fit as a part of one’s exercise regimen and whether or not it would be effective.

So anyway, R.I.P. Wii Fit Project. I’ll make sure to add you to my experimental gallery if I ever get off my ass and design it.

You know, I decided recently that I made a terrible decision when I bought Wii Fit instead of spending the extra 90 on Wii Rockband. Damn you Wii Fit - like we were ever going to start exercising....
  • The fact that I also bought Wii Rock Band may have an extra bit of something to do with the sporadic Wii Fit use. When faced with what to do on a Saturday night, it's always a no-brainer to pull out Rock Band.

On a side note, it's a good thing Rock Band 2 is coming out soon. Robin and have already played through Rock Band once and are on our way through a second time.
  • Fret not! You just took on more than you could reasonably do currently. Here's some recommended reading. It should cheer you up and help you set realistic expectations for yourself. :)

  • Well done on loosing 4-6 pounds in a week! Quite impressive from using Wii Fit.
