I work in the design department, and since I do a lot of the hiring I check out dozens of books a day. I do that online or via forwarded work in the form of PDF's, etc. The physical book is probably 1 percent of my screening process because it takes so long to get it, store it, send it back, etc. I love the physical book as part of the interview, and the way traditional design (and some ad) pieces look are still best viewed in book form. But the electronic form of the book cannot be over emphasized. I'm a little amused by your, uh "Adversary's" position. It smacks of fear of change, the likely hood they might have to learn something new to get by, or complete ignorance.

Got the same view when I introduced myself to her as a college adviser. She was reluctant to even tell me she was on LI or how to reach her. Thanks for being so open with the students. They need to hear all sides.

I fully realize that my impression of what happened could have been misconstrued because of my sheer "WTF?" inner reaction when it was happening, so I'm actually glad to hear that your impression wasn't quite the same as mine. I'd like to be completely wrong, in fact.

As long as the students got something out of it, that's what matters.

Ad Club is awesome. I'm glad to see that you got involved once you joined. Some people just join for the after hours parties, and that's OK but there are a lot of fulfilling opportunities for the people that look beyond that.

I didn't quite catch that full vibe from her, but I could tell that she was trying to throw some weight around. Whatever, you know. I think you made a good impression on the kids.

I was on the "non-traditional marketing" panel (scare quotes intended) as the token interactive guy and had a blast with my new friends from Liquid 9 and Department Zero. After 9 years in the KC ad scene, I've been really digging this first year in Ad Club.
