Inspiration - Plink Jet

plinkjet_show.jpgPlink Jet is a robotic musical instrument made from scavenged ink jet printers.

The instrument consists of four old ink jet printer mechanisms with guitar strings strung underneath them. There are also strumming wheels attached to the end of each mechanism. A user can control the fretting motion of the ink jet armatures via four switches and the strumming rhythm via four knobs. Somewhere on the device are some type of guitar pickups, because the instrument is hooked up to a Marshall pocket amp.

The videos on the site are very interesting to watch, however I was highly disappointed by the audio quality. There was so much ambient sound in the background that I couldn’t actually hear what the Plink Jet sounds like. Come on guys, take this back to the lab and get one or two decent videos of this thing in a controlled environment.

  • What an interesting thing to hook up to a Marshall! Good use for all the ink jet printers out there that are no longer working.
