Scanner Photography Project
I am completely blow away by the results of The Scanner Photography Project. This experimental project has created a very unique camera using simple, common parts, and has yielded fascinating results:
My first scanner camera was made from lots of duct tape, a cardboard box, and the cheapest flatbed scanner that I could find. I expected this to be a quick little art project, one that would take a week or two at the most. But when I got my first homemade digital camera to work, I noticed that some wonderful things were beginning to happen.
As objects pass through the frame, strange temporal distortions get recorded into the image, creating strange, haunting images such as the one pictured above.
I wish I hadn’t thrown away that scanner that was going on the fritz. It could have easily been the basis for my very own scanner camera. I’m going to try putting one together, and maybe you might too. Let’s compare results in a few months.
//UPDATE 01-11-07: It seems that the site for this project has gone away. Does anyone know where it might have gone?
