What do you do with all your software know-how?

I’m having to brush up my resume in response to an RFP, and I’m taking a look at my list of software and technologies that I’m familiar with and it’s like an avalanche of technopuke.

The last time I was passing this around, I had that section alone covering one full page, a 4×4 table that broke all my software/tech knowledge into four category rows, and then broke them down further into three columns of competency (expert, intermediate, and novice for those who couldn’t guess).

It’s huge! As of now, I have 75 different things listed. Too much, just too much. I’ve been surfing around trying to find some resumes online (yours was probably one of them), trying to decide how to present this information.

Some of you don’t even put this stuff on your resume, some of you keep it short and sweet. My question for those of you who do either of these things, how do you effectively communicate your skillset without actually getting into a conversation with someone?

Please fill this post full of comments, I’m incredibly interested in hearing what you have to say.
